As we approach 2010…

Ring in the new year by listening to this spectacular version of “Auld Lang Syne” by Salsa Celtica.  I love the second half – never has “Auld Lang Syne” made me want to dance so much.  A very vibrant song, and an amazing way to celebrate the end of this decade and the beginning of the next.

Christmas Eve on Sesame Street

I am not ashamed to admit that I just bought Christmas Eve on Sesame Street on DVD.  It was one of my favorite Christmas movies when I was little, and unlike so many other things that seem amazing only when you’re seven or under, Christmas Eve on Sesame Street is still as charming, entertaining, and heartwarming as ever.  Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go wander the snow-covered streets of New York City and sing this song:

Hanukkah Flash Mob

I am so happy about the recent rise in popularity of dancing flash mobs.  Here’s a rather well choreographed performance in Jerusalem.  Happy Hanukkah!

Guerrilla Handbell Strikeforce

Improv Everywhere never fails to make me smile.

(Also, this “Where’s Rob?” video is great.)

That Was the Worst Christmas Ever! – Sufjan Stevens

Now that it’s December, I have an excuse to listen to Christmas music every day.  Scattered amongst several versions of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” “Silver Bells,” and “Winter Wonderland” on my Christmas playlist are a few less common tunes.  One of my favorites is “That Was the Worst Christmas Ever!” by the incredible Sufjan Stevens, from his album Songs for Christmas:

GuyPhone

Found via Unpluggd.  This Halloween, Reko Rivera and John Savio dressed up as fully functional human-sized iPhones, also known as GuyPhones.  These impressive costumes were made with 42″ LCD screens and cost about $1000 each.

Cupcake Car

I’ve heard plenty of stories about rich people buying ridiculous things for ridiculous prices.  Neiman Marcus’ $25,000 custom cupcake car is no exception.  Not surprisingly, this absurd vehicle was first seen at Burning Man.  The matching hats are hilarious.

Transformers Costume

Found via @SexyPeople.  Search YouTube for “transformers costume” and you’ll find some pretty impressive stuff, from home-made cardboard creations (great DIY costume idea) to full-out miniature car replicas.

Halloween Extravaganza

If you’re going to be in New York City on Friday, October 30th, consider getting a ticket to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine’s Halloween Extravaganza.  Starting at 7pm and then again at 10pm, there is a procession of ghouls and a screening of Nosferatu, a silent vampire film from the 1920s.  The procession of ghouls is an incredible spectacle, and Nosferatu a real treat.  I’ve already got my tickets!
